Malang, July 21, 2026 — Sekolah Pascasarjana Universitas Negeri Malang held a workshop today titled “Journal Management Workshop: Strategies Toward Scopus-Indexed Journals,” opened by the Director of Sekolah Pascasarjana, Prof. Syamsul Bachri, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D. Coordinated by Dr. Siti Faizah, S.Pd., M.Pd., and hosted by Dr. Mardhatillah, S.Pd.I., M.Pd., the event was designed to equip faculty with the practical strategies and governance skills needed to manage journals toward Scopus indexation.
The event took place at the 9th Floor Hall of Building A21, Sekolah Pascasarjana Universitas Negeri Malang, and drew a strong turnout from S2 & S3 Pendidikan Dasar, alongside journal management teams and doctoral and master’s students in Basic Education. Among the lecturers from S2 & S3 Pendidikan Dasar who took part were Dr. Ratna Ekawati, S.Pd.Si., M.Pd., Dr. Aynin Mashfufah, S.Pd., M.Pd., Dr. Riska Pristiani, S.Pd., M.Pd., Dr. Slamet Arifin, S.Pd., M.Pd., Dr. Siti Mas’ula, M.Pd., Dr. Radeni Sukma Indra Dewi, S.S., M.Pd., Dr. Oktaviani Adhi Suciptaningsih, M.Pd., Dr. Sri Rahayuningsih, S.Pd., M.Pd., and Dr. Intan Sari Rufiana, M.Pd. Their participation reflected the program’s commitment to strengthening its faculty’s capacity to manage journals toward international recognition.
As part of Sekolah Pascasarjana’s ongoing effort to bring the journals under its management toward Scopus indexation, the workshop featured keynote speaker Dr. Ahmad Bahtiar, M.Hum., from UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, who walked participants through the administrative and editorial groundwork behind a successful Scopus submission — knowledge directly relevant to lecturers in S2 & S3 Pendidikan Dasar who manage or contribute to journals within their program.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Syamsul Bachri underlined why this kind of training matters. “To get indexed in Scopus, we need the right knowledge. This event is here to provide that. There’s a lot of administrative groundwork in a Scopus submission that not everyone is familiar with. We hope that through this workshop, participants can learn the strategies and governance needed to actually reach that Scopus target,” he said.
Dr. Siti Faizah explained that the session was designed to bring together journal managers, faculty lecturers, and graduate students so they could prepare for Scopus accreditation together, as one community — with S2 & S3 Pendidikan Dasar lecturers playing an active role in that shared effort.
Mohammad Yusuf Randy, a student of S3 Pendidikan Dasar, noted that the workshop was valuable for students, as it would equip them with knowledge to collaborate on journal management after graduation, particularly for journals targeting Scopus indexation.
Closing the event, Dr. Ahmad Bahtiar offered a note of encouragement to the room. “We shouldn’t be afraid to submit for Scopus accreditation. If a journal has been managed properly all along, the process shouldn’t be complicated,” he said.
This workshop reflects the commitment of Sekolah Pascasarjana Universitas Negeri Malang, and of its S2 & S3 Pendidikan Dasar lecturers in particular, to advancing quality education and knowledge-sharing, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals — particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), through capacity-building for academics and students, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), by fostering collaboration between journal managers, faculty, and students toward stronger, internationally recognized scholarly publishing.
